He would ask girls he was interested in out on dates. It wasn't a real date, though; he was luring them to join a youth organization he was involved in. Many were impressed by his commitment, but the Communist secret service was so irritated that they decided to stop Roland Bude. They arrested him, tortured him in every way possible, and eventually dragged him off to forced labour across the Arctic Circle.
